HHC Now Available In Spring Texas

HHC is to THC, what margarine is to butter. HHC stands for hydroxyhexahydrocannabinol. There are several isomers of this hydrogenated form of THC. By saturating the molecule with hydrogen atoms, the shelf-life of this cannabinoid is substantially extended without affecting the effect profile much. HHC is naturally occurring, but only in trace amounts in the pollen and seeds of hemp.

For companies to sell this cannabinoid, they’re going to need to make it in a lab. This compound is also much more resistant to improper storage or exposure to heat and UV light. HHC would make for almost the perfect cannabinoid because of how long it remains viable in storage. Delta 9 THC, the strongest natural-occurring form of THC, but it’s also the least stable. As it oxidizes, it loses hydrogen atoms and forms two new double bonds on its top ring structure. After that THC becomes CBN — which has only 10% of the psychoactivity of THC. The real benefit of this cannabinoid comes from its outstanding shelf-life, more so than its physical effects. It offers very similar benefits to THC but comes in a much more stable form.

Is HHC Legal?

There’s a lot of debate around the legality of cannabinoids like HHC or delta 8 THC. Companies that intend to sell HHC, such as Bearly Legal claim it’s entirely legal because it’s naturally occurring. However, like many of the other THC analogs, it doesn’t occur in any meaningful amounts in nature and therefore must be made in a lab in order to get any usable supply.

Specifically, HHC is made by hydrogenating THC. This process involves subjecting concentrated THC to high pressure, hydrogen, and a catalyst such as palladium. An older method outlined a process for converting CBD to 9α-OH-HHC, 8-OH-iso-HHC, and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol using artificial gastric juice. There haven’t been many updates on this procedure since the initial article published in 2007.

Whether this constitutes a natural or synthetic compound is up for debate. If deemed natural, as long as the final product remains below the legal threshold of 0.3% delta 9 THC and the starting material is derived from hemp, it’s legal on a federal level.

What Are The Effects of HHC?

HHC has almost identical effects as THC. USDA drops DEA testing requirement, while FDA acknowledges demand for CBD

Federal agriculture officials are dropping the requirement that all THC testing on hemp crops must be performed at laboratories registered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), according to industry sources.

And food and drug regulators say it’s a “fool’s errand” to get people to stop taking over-the-counter CBD.

Greg Ibach, undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) told members of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) meeting in Arlington, Virginia, that USDA and DEA have reached an agreement to remove the requirement for hemp farmers to have their crops tested in DEA-registered laboratories. The DEA requirement was included in the interim final rule for domestic hemp production, released Oct. 31.

“This about-face by USDA means that farmers can continue to use their trusted local and regional analytical testing labs to ensure compliance with USDA rules,” Josh Schneider, CEO of San Diego-based young plant producer Cultivaris Hemp, told Hemp Industry Daily.

“Getting rid of this ridiculous DEA testing requirement is a step in the right direction by the USDA,” said Schneider. “Hopefully this means that USDA has come to their senses and will be making better and smarter rules going forward.”

Widespread opposition

The USDA received more than 4,700 comments about its hemp rules, Ibach told NASDA members.

Many of them took issue with the DEA testing requirement.

There are 47 laboratories currently registered with the DEA and many states do not have a registered laboratory, which would require state, tribal and federal law enforcement agents responsible for testing hemp crops to send samples from out of state within a tight, 15-day testing window.

William Richmond, director of the USDA’s Domestic Hemp Production program, told farmers at the Industrial Hemp Summit in Virginia on Monday that testing and sampling requirements were among the aspects the agency could change.

Other parts of the rule, such as the 0.3% total THC limit and the requirement for information sharing, can be changed only by Congress, Richmond said.

Earlier this month, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), the agency heading up the Domestic Hemp Production program, said federal hemp production rules likely will not change before the final rule was developed by Oct. 31, 2021.

Richmond reiterated on Monday that the USDA will open a public comment period in the fall, to gather industry input on the 2020 production season.

FDA signals a change

Also this week, Dr. Stephen Hahn, the newly appointed commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), acknowledged that American consumers want CBD.

He said Wednesday that the agency is working to move forward with regulations.

“We’re not going to be able to say you can’t use these products. It’s a fool’s errand to even approach that,” Hahn said at the NASDA meeting.

“We have to be open to the fact that there might be some value to these products and certainly Americans think that’s the case. But we want to get them information to make the right decisions.”

The FDA developed a working group following a public meeting and comment period to gather industry input about CBD, but the agency said in November that it had not yet seen enough scientific studies or data to allow it to recognize CBD or products containing it as safe or GRAS.

FDA has not provided a timeline for when it will release guidance on CBD regulation.

MLB Officially Removes Marijuana From Banned Substances List For Baseball Players

On December 12th, 2019 in a stunning landmark decision, Major League Baseball decided to remove all cannabis products from its list of drugs of abuse. The MLB stated they will treat cannabis the same as alcohol moving forward. They also decided to BEGIN drug testing for cocaine and opioids in this same decision. (Source)

Since Major League Baseball (MLB) and the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) came to their first Joint Drug Agreement in 2002, the MLB has been lenient towards the use of marijuana. The focus of the MLB’s drug policy remains on performance-enhancing drugs, not cannabis.

Under the current Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, major league players do not participate in random drug tests for drugs of abuse, such as cannabis. Instead, players are tested upon a reasonable cause of use.

Additionally, if a player exceeds the THC threshold of 50ng/ml, they are not likely subject to suspension. The player will most likely be subject to treatment and/or fines, which cannot exceed $35,000 per violation. With the tolerance of cannabis use in the major league, one would expect to see more proponents of CBD in the organization. David Wells (former pitcher) is one of the only MLB athletes, both former and current, that is an advocate of CBD oil. In an interview with ThePostGame’s David Katz, Wells said, “I wish I knew about it back when I played because I would’ve been all over it. I would’ve taken those risks.”

Discrepancy in Punishment

In the MLB, there is a strong discrepancy between the punishment imposed on major league players and minor league players for the use of cannabis. The MLBPA has opposed harsh punishment for marijuana use, but minor league players are not protected by the union. Because of this, the MLB sets the drug policies for minor league players.

The Minor League Baseball testing program suspends for marijuana use: one positive test results in admittance into a Drug Rehabilitation Program, a second positive test results in a 50-game suspension, a third positive test results in a 100-game suspension, and a fourth positive test results in a permanent ban from organized baseball. The MLB is the only major league sports organization to implement a ban on the use of marijuana.

The MLBPA appears to be the driving factor in the MLB’s lenient approach to marijuana use. The association’s willingness to remove CBD from the list of drugs of abuse has not been discussed. As of now, both the MLB and the MLBPA seem to be content with the current Joint Drug Agreement and there does not seem to be enough push from the players to consider a change in regards to CBD.

American Shaman Products Are Changing Color

We have been starting to get questions from franchise owners and customers about the color of our products. We are issuing an official memo that is from our in house chemists and is approved by our CEO Vince Sanders.

The basics of the change are that you and customers will notice changes in the color of our products.

American Shaman will be using hemp grown by our American Shaman farm located in Montana. The new oil being used in the formulations is also sourced from our extraction facility located on the same property as our hemp farm.

The oil used in future formulations is of a higher purity than the oil used in previous batch formulations. The higher purity of the oil resulted in a lighter color (amber/honey) of the oil. This will change the overall color of all the products being produced by American Shaman. The result of the color is from the filtering process, which removes higher content of the chlorophyll from the plant material. The extraction of the oil is performed using wiped film distillation.

The oil has been tested for the following parameters: Cannabinoid profile, Terpenes, Residual Solvents, Mycotoxins, Heavy Metals, and Pesticides.

All parameters passed for the specifications listed above. Which enabled our team to move forward with lab batch testing.
